1) Seachtain Bia Folláin

Luan
Bhronn Christine Gurnett (Senior Community Dietician) teastas speisialta ar an Modhscoil. Fuaireamar é de bharr na hiarrachtaí ar fad a dhéanaimid na páistí a mhealladh chun bia folláin a ithe.
Rinneadh athbhreithniú ar ár bPolasaí Bia Folláin.

Máirt
Thaistil grúpa mór páistí go Superquinn. Bhlas siad go leor torthaí agus glasraí neamhchoitianta. Fuair gach páiste “goodie bag” folláin.
Tháinig Niamh O’ Connor (bia-eolaí) agus Beryl Carswell (comhairleoir súgradh) chun labhairt leis na tuismitheoirí an oíche sin. ár mbuíochas le Bobby’s Bar agus Collin’s Bar le haghaidh an fíona agus cáise!

Céadaoin
Rinneadh faiche Mhargaidh den halla. Bhí an-chuid stainníní bia ann. Bhlas na páistí réimse leathan bia folláin. ár mbuíochas le Golden Vale, Ivan’s, Eats of Eden agus Mc Donald’s as ucht cabhrú linn. Buíochas freisin le O’Mahony’s a chuir sraith leabhair cócaireachta do pháistí ar thaispeántas dúinn.

Déardaoin
Thug Rang a Sé cuairt ar siopa éisc Rene Cusack, áit a chonaic siad iasc á fhilléad agus á ullmhú.
Fuair gach dalta scoile torthaí deasa ó Fyffe’s. Bhí áthas an domhain orthu, freisin, nuair a fuaireadar “Bunalaun” Organic Rice Cakes.

Aoine
Labhair Eleanor Fitzgerald (Miss Limerick) agus Sara Deigan (Beauty Therapist) leis na páistí sinsir mar gheall ar áilleacht agus aire craiceann. Labhair Stephen Keogh (imreoir rugbaí) leo mar gheall ar shlí beatha sláintiúil.
Fuair na daltaí leis na lónta is sláintiúla leabhar álainn, bronnta ag ó O’Mahony’s.
Bronnadh fáinne eochracha speisialta ar gach páiste chun chur i gcuimhne dóibh bia folláin a roghnú sa todhchaí.

Activities

1) Healthy Eating Week
12/11/06-19/11/06

Monday
Christine Gurnett (Senior Community Dietician) presented a certificate of achievement to the school.
Our Healthy Eating Policy was re-launched.

Tuesday
Many pupils were brought to Superquinn where they sampled various exotic fruit and vegetables. They were also treated to a healthy “Goodie Bag” each.
Guest speakers Niamh O’ Connor (Consultant Dietician) and Beryl Carswell (Play Advisor) addressed parents that evening. Wine and cheese arrived compliments of Bobby’s Bar and Collin’s Bar.

Wednesday
Our hall was transformed into a market place. We had numerous wonderful food stalls. The children tasted a variety of health foods. Many thanks to Golden Vale, Ivan’s, Eats of Eden and Mc Donald’s for their contributions. Thanks also to O’Mahony’s for displaying their range of children’s cook books.

Thursday
6th class visited Rene Cusack’s fish shop. They watched as monkfish was filleted and prepared.
Fyffe’s Bananas provided fruit treats for all. The children were also delighted to receive Bunalaun Organic Rice Cakes.

Friday
Senior classes were addressed by three guest speakers. Eleanor Fitzgerald (Miss Limerick) and Sara Deigan (Beauty Therapist) gave beauty and skincare tips. Stephen Keogh (rugby player) spoke about healthy lifestyles.
In all Classes, the child with the healthiest lunches throughout the week received a beautiful book, sponsored by O’Mahony’s.
Each pupil in the school received a specially designed key-ring to remind them to make healthy food-choices in the future.

2) Comenius

Tá an Mhodhscoil páirteach sa tionscnamh “Comenius”. Spreagann an tionscnamh seo comhoibriú i measc scoileanna san Eoraip. Roghnaíomar “Slí Beatha sláintiúil” le haghaidh ár dtionscnamh speisialta i mbliana. D’eagraíomar seachtain bia folláin sa scoil ón 13ú Samhain ‘06. D’fhoghlaim na páistí gach rud ó chonas smoothies a dhéanamh go smaointí deasa i gcomhair bia sláintiúil don bhosca lón.

The Model is heavily involved in the “Comenius” programme, which promotes cooperation between schools in Europe. We have chosen “Healthy Lifestyles” as our special project this year. We ran a Healthy Eating Week in school from 13th November ‘06. The children learned everything from making fruit smoothies, to choosing healthy alternatives for their lunch-boxes.

3) An Taoiseach Bertie Aherne

Thug an Taoiseach Bertie Aherne cuairt ar ár scoil ar an 6ú Deireadh Fómhair ‘06. Chuir sé crann feá sa ghairdín agus shiúil sé timpeall na scoile, ag bualadh le páistí, múinteoirí, tuismitheoirí agus bord Bainistíochta. Bhí sé an-tógtha le dea-atmasféar na scoile.

We were delighted to be visited by Taoiseach, Bertie Aherne on 6th October ‘06. He planted a beech tree in our garden and toured the school, meeting pupils, teachers, parents and Board of Management. He was reported to have been quite taken with the school’s pleasant atmosphere.
